Dososei Ep. 10 Final

It's a new start for our guys and gals.  It's a happy, sad, and bitter time for them.  One pushes his own happiness.  One backs off not to be a burden to her loved one.  One is deserted by a loved one.  One doesn't want to be happy after hurting somebody.  

Life isn't all happiness, and today's bitterness may bring happiness in the future.  As they say, "If you keep living, you'll surely encounter something good."

Kenta packs up to go to the U.S. with Akehi and her kids.  His cleaning store and its land are sold.  He goes to see Akehi's husband.  Kenta shows him pictures of bruises on his face and Akehi's arm, and places a check (money) in front of the husband.  He tells him he can go to police for bodily injury case, and if the husband doesn't want that, he should take the money and leave Akehi.  The money is his way of apology to take Akehi and her kids away.

Although the husband doesn't agree to divorce Akehi, his eldest son from his 1st wife, who wanted to leave the house with Akehi, stands between Akehi and his father.  The kid tells the father he'll stay with him and asks him to let Akehi go.  The husband gets disturbed.  He goes into his dark and empty salon and cries out loud.

Later on, Akehi's husband signs a divorce paper and give the paper to Akehi.  He also gives her a bank book, saying that the money is for the kids.  He asks Akehi to take his oldest son with her, and to take good care of his children.  He's sincere.

While Kaoruko finds she's pregnant, Ryousuke decides to become a physician.  He's going to quit his job and go to medical school.  He tells his wife about his decision and asks her for divorce.  He tells him he'll be unable to financially support the family.  She doesn't accept and tell him that she'll help and support him.  She showed her good heart and Ryousuke can't say anything more.

One day, the four (Kenta, Akehi, Ryousuke and Kaoruko) go to see their junior high school teacher, Mr. Samejima.  He's going to fulfill his lifelong dream of going to Africa for archaeological excavation.  His last words to them was, "Life is shorter than you think.  Do whatever your heart desires."

After leaving Samejima's place, the four goes to have a drink together.  There, Ryousuke announces he's going to reset his life by becoming a doctor.  He is going to quit his job, and study for medical school entrance exam.

Kaoruko was going to announce her pregnancy, but after hearing Ryousuke's plan, she tells Ryousuke that she's going to leave him. On the way home Akehi asks Kaoruko if she is pregnant.  Kaoruko answers "Yes", but asks Akehi not to tell anybody.

One day, Kenta's former wife comes to see Akehi.  She tells Akehi that she's going to marry soon, and asks her to take good care of Kenta.

Akehi leaves her house (and her husband) and moves into Kenta's place with her 3 kids.  They have a happy time together as a family.  Kenta leaves for the U.S. to make arrangement for their new house.  He is to come back in 10 days.

When Kenta comes back, Akehi and her kids were gone.  Kenta finds a letter from her in which she says she shouldn't be the only person to be happy.  She asks him not to look for her.


Kaoruko disappears from Ryousuke by quitting her job and moving out of her apartment.  

Kenta and Ryousuke meet on the night before Kenta leaves for the U.S.  They smile bitterly, saying to each other that their women left them and are both missing.  They reminisce the good old days when the four had fun together.

And 5 Years Later...

Ryousue is a medical student, trying hard to become a full-fleged doctor.

Kaoruko has a boy.    She owns and works in a pharmacy.

Ryousuke receives a letter about his class reunion.  With a mixed feeling, he sighs and look at the sky far away.

Kaoruko owns a farmacy.  She receives the same letter.  She tears the letter and put the torn pieces into a trash can.

Together with the class reunion letter, Akehi receives a note from Kenta.  She runs to see him at their junior high school campus.  They meet and hug each other.  His and her third love came true.

My reaction:

I'm not so sure about Kenta's action to Akehi's husband.  Making him take money or get sued sounds more like a threat to me.  He feels sorry and wants to compensate the husband, but I question financial compensation to the husband for having adulterous relationship with the wife is appropriate.

Although Akehi's husband acted like a villain, I'm glad this episode showed his soft side.  This guy definitely needs help on anger management.

I wasn't happy about Ryousuke.  To him, resetting his life didn't include Kaoruko nor his wife.  He cared only about himself becoming a doctor.

Kaoruko didn't want to be a burden to Ryousuke so she backed out.  And there's more to it.  Deep down, she knew he cared only about himself, and that he wouldn't be able to leave his wife.  Indeed, when he asked his wife for divorce, he never mentioned about Kaoruko.  His main reason was a financial one.  Kaoruko, I think, was fed up with him, and decided she's better off living by herself with her kid. 

I admire her for her courage and strength for choosing to be a single mother.  At the same time, I hope she will not push/try things too hard.  She has a soft/sensitive side and I hope she takes care of that side of her.  She'll be a good mother.

As for Akehi, I'm not so sure exactly why she backed out from Kenta.  Did she feel sorry for her ex-husband who was left alone and Kenta's son who cannot go see him easily???  I don't quite understand why she didn't want to be the only happy person.

So they met 5 years later and they still love each other.  Good for them!  Yokatta-desu-ne.
