KANO: Taiwanese Movie

KANO: Movie Trailer
(with English subs on Youtube Site)

This is a 2014 Taiwanese movie based on a true story about a high school baseball team going to Koshien for the national championship.  It is an agricultural high school in Kagi (嘉義) in southern Taiwan under the Japanese occupation in 1930s.

As you can see from this trailer, most dialogues (probably 90% of them) are in Japanese.  It does not go much into political aspect of the Japanese presence in Taiwan as this is a youth baseball movie.

It's a long movie; about 3 hours, but I enjoyed watching the boys, who never won a game, practicing and playing hard, and never slack off.  In Koshien, they did the best they could and reached a point where winning or losing does not really matter much.

Subs: Koko ni Aru Shiawse [SP]

I just finished the subs for a J-drama (SP) Koko ni Aru Shiawase.

It's a heart-warming drama about a young man (Matsuda Shouta) struggling with his life.  Through an encounter with an old woman (Miyamoto Nobuko) in a small fishing town, he finds himself as well as the meanings of "home land" and happiness.

Great story.  Great acting.  Great sceneries.

Highly recommended.
