New Summer J-drama (4): Wakamono Tachi 2014

 This is a drama about a 4-brother and 1-sister family.  Their parents are dead and the oldest son is the head of the household.

My first impression was that actors in this drama are really good ones.  Here they are (this may include spoilers, so be ware);

The oldest brother: Tsumabuki Satoshi
  - Construction worker.  He just finds out that his girl friend got pregnant.  He also finds out she works in a night club in addition to her daytime work in a bento shop, and that she got pregnant to marry him.

The second brtoher:  Eita
  - He just got out of prison.  He seems to have killed a woman.

The sister: Urashima Hikari
  - A nurse at NICU (ICU for premature newborns).  She's having an affair with a doctor who is married with a kid.

The third brother:  Emoto Tasuku
  - A fifth-year college student. He got a job offer, but decided not to take it.  He started a theater group to pursue acting.  His girlfriend just left him and the theater group.

The youngest brother:  Nomura Shu'uhei
  -  He quit high school and is studying for GED.  He was seduced by a girl he met and lost his virginity.

Oldest brother's girlfriend:  Aoi Yuu
Daughter of a woman that the second brother killed:  Nagasawa Masami　  
Sister's lover:  Yoshioka Hidetaka
Youngest brother's girlfriend:  Hashimoto Ai

The first episode was an introduction of different characters, and focused rather on the difficulties of their lives.  

This drama is a re-make of a drama with the same title broadcasted in 1966.  It had 34 episodes (although one was not broadcasted) and was shown from Feb. to Sept.  

The oldest brother was played by Tanaka Kunie.  Other brothers and sister include; Hashimoto Isao, Satou Orie, Yamamoto Kei, and Matsuyama Seiji.  The actor for the oldest brother is now 81 years old, the youngest, 67.  

Both dramas use the same tile song.
